This past Friday was The Deli Philly’s 3rd Anniversary Bash at Kung Fu Necktie with Dangerous Ponies, Orbit to Leslie, The Homophones, Power Animal, and Botany. We promised you a rad time, and it was delivered! Though it was a shame that the Phillies couldn’t hold up their end of the bargain, the celebration went on fueled by a little Jameson and cake. Thank you all who participated! We hope that you had as much fun as we did. The lights were low keeping the conspirators in the shadows, but you can check out some of our pics from the evening HERE.
EXITMUSIC headlines Deli Dream Pop Stage at CMJ on Tuesday 10.18 at The Delancey
Aleksa Palladino and Devon Church make dreamy rock music under the heading EXITMUSIC. The band’s impressive live shows have been garnering much-deserved attention for the Brooklynbased married couple; on stage, Aleksa commands attention as the band’s lead vocalist. She also alternates between playing guitar and keyboards. Devon stands tall as the primary guitarist, and shifts effortlessly between providing power chords, quick riffs or melody lines and even employs a violin bow on the strings at one point. The band will be headlining the Deli’s CMJ Dream Pop Stage at The Delancey on Tuesday 10.18, with Mahogany, ohnomoon and Spanish Prisoners – here’s the event’s Facebook page, and here the full list of Deli CMJ 2011 shows.
Cuddle Magic Casting Spells at JB’s Oct. 11
Cuddle Magic is on tour, and will be making a pit stop tonight at Johnny Brenda’s. The chamber folk-pop outfit will be filling the stage with a multitude of instruments like a vibraphone, acoustic bass, trumpet, bass clarinet, and many others to blend with their gently flowing vocals creating an elegant sound even more adorable than their band name. They’ll most likely be sharing tunes that will be making an appearance on their upcoming third album Info Nympho that is scheduled for release in early 2012. Joining them this evening will be former New Yorkers now local natives The Powder Kegs and Is And Of The, the project of 20 year old experimental musician Drew Bandos. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. From the NYC Open Blog: Low Fat Getting High send pizzas to “Occupy Wall Street” peeps
In an effort to help the folks occupying Wall Street, NYC punk group Low Fat Getting High put together a fund raiser single entitled "P.O.W.S. (Prisoners of Wall Street" in support of the cause, available for download on Bandcamp.com for $5. All proceeds will go towards buying food for the protestors in Zuccotti Park. Here’s what the band has to say about this: "A few of us dropping five bucks can at least send a couple pizzas their way. Let’s help some folks out who need a hand. A slice of pizza between imprisonment and pepper spray can really raise some spirits. Let’s go!" – (as posted in The Deli’s Open Blog – post your band’s entries, videos, and Mp3s here). The Deli’s NYC Open Blog is powered by The Music Building and APS Mastering.

Big Troubles launch new video + tour US
Big Troubles launched this new video today, which I believe was shot at least partially at the Prospect Park Zoo and nearby carousel, which The Deli staff regularly rides on Sunday afternoons. The song by the way is a testament to the fact that you don’t need to abuse of auto-tune to get a buzz in the blogs! The band is currently touring the entire US, they’ll be back in NYC on 11.23 with a show at The Bowery Ballroom.
Transfer Brings Big Sounds on Debut LP, Future Selves
The San Diego-based rock quartet Transfer was meant to play stadiums. The foursome follows a standard rock ‘n’ roll band structure—vocals, guitar, bass, drums—but the wall of sound these musicians create resonates like the work of an orchestra. It is so full, so loud, and so well produced that it is hard to believe it is the work of four men. It is also hard to believe that this band is about to release its debut record. Transfer’s songs are so polished, each track hooking its listener with catchy pop riffs and anthemic lyrics, and then reeling its listener in with layers of psychedelic guitars, that it sounds like this is not the band’s first go around. But it is. The four-piece will release its freshman album, Future Selves, on October 11 via Cool Green Recordings, and then head out on a European tour with Kaiser Chiefs. – Katrina Nattress
Alberta Cross releases new EP, tour with Portugal The Man
Although it’s been out for purchase on their official website for a week already, Alberta Cross‘s newest, five-track release, “The Rolling Thunder EP,” is now officially out. After debuting a few teaser singles, "Money For the Weekend" and "Get Up, (not on the EP)," both featured on ads for Ketel One Vodka and Verizon’s Droid Bionic "Ring," and "Wait," the quintet delivered a beautifully crafted series of songs that blend signature howling vocals, mysterious echoing effects, bluesly, bassy sultriness, rocking slide guitar, and the touching elements of folk. The EP opens with the fiery "Money For the Weekend," and follows with the seductive "Ramblin’ Home," eerie "Wait," (streaming below) bossanova-rock-infused "Driving With Myself," and finishes with the poignant, piano-driven title track. You can check out Alberta Cross on tour with Portugal. The Man over the next couple of months. They’ll be in New York on October 20 at Terminal 5. –Meijin Bruttomesso

New Performance Video: Swimmers Ear at KFN & Educational Video on Why You Shouldn’t Get Sooooo Effed Up at a Show
The great thing sometimes about live shows is that you never know what you’ll experience in the moment. Well, below is some video footage of newest Reading Rainbow member Al Creedon shredding it up with his other project Swimmers Ear at the Far-Out Fangtooth Record Release Party on October 1, 2011 at Kung Fu Necktie that we co-presented with YVYNYL. You’ll also see one extremely fucked up female attendee get kicked out, but not before breaking a bass, screaming an apology from stage, and dancing for the crowd. Reading Rainbow also tweeted a little more insight into the spectacle – “u can see her throw the mike into the audience which hit Rachel @sluteverforever ‘s hand & u can he(a)r her yell ‘ow!’ & ‘fuck you bitch!’” Woah – get that gal to rehab! (Special thanks to Tiffany Yoon for sharing the video and Reading Rainbow & Far-Out Fangtooth for bringing it to our attention.) Enjoy! (Photo by Brandee Nichols)
Harsh Vibes Ready to Harsh Your Mellow at KFN Oct. 9
Harsh Vibes mastermind Ragnar Bergan came up with the band’s name when trying to describe to the rest of the group his concept for their sound. It was also the initial title for a song that is now called “Good Times”. Well, the shoegazey acid rock outfit lives up to their name with ferociously noisy guitar licks and static-y synths that could harsh anyone’s mellow. They’ll be opening for psych rock lovers The Tweeds and Dead People at Kung Fu Necktie tonight so get ready to “turn on, tune in, and drop out.” Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 8pm, $5, 21+ – Alexis V.
