Le Sang Song Show at the Rendezvous

Posted on:

Tomorrow night Le Sang Song throws down at the Rendezvous.  Craig Chambers, also of The Lights and Love Tan, began Le Sang Song as a bedroom recording project that eventually blossomed into a full-fledged, audience-demanding band.  He crafts infectious backdrops that remain constant throughout his songs, adding textural touches to his grooves with thumb piano, violin and other noise oriented flourishes to flesh out his sound and provide a convincing illusion of movement.  His first and only self-titled LP was put out on Dragnet Records, which actually was inspired to revive its productions because of Chambers’ tracks.  Other notable Seattle acts Blood Red Dancers and See Me River will be playing tomorrow at the Rendezvous as well.

Lia Ices releases new video + plays Mercury on 08.11 (tonight)

Posted on:

You should all know by now how partial we are (I am) to Lia Ices and her wonderful dreamy sonic mellowness – the lady graced the cover of our latest, winter issue. Lia just released this DIY video for the song "Love is Won", shot on Super 8 Film in Rome (hey that’s where I was born!). Understandably, most of the video is about Lia eating awesome Italian food. The video was directed by Christin Turner in collaboration with Lia. She will play at the Mercury Lounge in NYC tonight, in the UK this month and on the west coast in December with The Sea and Cake. Check also out Lia’s tour diary from Lollapalooza here.

Two NYC folky releases: Sheri Miller and Robert DiPietro

Posted on:

Sheri Miller, a singer-songwriter with a long history in and out of the City, has recently released her album “Winning Hand” with the help of producer Kevin Killen (U2, Peter Gabriel). Rolling Stone has called her music "Alluring… She makes a powerful first impression, and then, even better, a series of more complex and lasting ones." Check out her latest tracks here, see her live at Rockwood on August 22.

Last Thursday at the Rockwood Music Hall, Robert DiPietro celebrated his new release “Bad Luck Bobby”, now available here, a strong collection of upbeat alt folk featuring a cute ukulele track “Perfect Room,” picked violin in “Easy Chair,” and more electric guitar/key support in “The Getaway”, of which the repeated chorus says, “I’m okay, I’m okay, I’m okay…” and finally, “just not today.” It’s a roundup of well-played lyrics, and a generally nice vibe. – Caitlin Clive

Sadgiqacea Benefit Show at KFN Aug. 11

Posted on:

Tonight at Kung Fu Necktie is the “Sadgiqacea Benefit Show: because they got their gear stolen and it fucking sucks.” It’s just devastating to a band having something like that happen to you (which seems to be occurring a lot lately to artists). The metal community has been kindly banning together to help recoup the estimated $8,500 lost in the robbery. If you want to help out and do your part, come this evening to KFN and join KRIEG, Bubonic Bear, Ominous Black, and Gholas in opening up a can of whip-ass for a good cause. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 8pm, $8, 21+ – Alexis V.

Terraplane Sun bring their blues-tinged rock to Echo on August 11th

Posted on:

Blues artists are usually regarded for their virtuosic technicality and skilled compositions, but the real question is whether or not they have the personality to stand out from their instrumental precision. Terraplane Sun is one of those bands that aren’t troubled of bending the rules whilst strictly adhering to key signature blues scales. Fronted by Ben Rothbard’s raggedly eclectic vocal delivery, the Venice troupe concentrate in rich, abrasive melodic folk-rock with sharp choruses that’ll stick in your mind for days. Fresh off from releasing their sophomore Coyote, they’ll make a quick stop at the Echo this Thursday, August 11th. – Juan Edgardo Rodríguez
