The Living Kills pre-release party at Public Assembly on May 13

Posted on:

Psychedelic garage rockers, The Living Kills, are celebrating the completion of their upcoming album "Faceless Angels," with a pre-album release party at Public Assembly May 13, also featuring The Tablets, Indian Rebound, author readings, and food, book, music, and alcohol giveaways. WNYC Culture had this to say about the band’s 7-inch, "Like dutiful musical offspring of the Velvet Underground, the Living Kills play the kind of dark, psychedelic rock that sounds like it should’ve drifted out of the windows of the Factory in its ’60s heyday." And in the year since, they’ve only continued to evolve, adding texture and polish to their songs. Special guest Liz Godoy of the Tablets will join them singing back-up. – (as posted in The Deli’s Open Blog – post your band’s entries, videos, and Mp3s here). Best of NYC #85: Sonia’s Party

Posted on:

You know when you “accidentally” put too much tequila in that Margarita and end up liking it that much more? It’s that type of party. Sonia’s Party throws down a pungent fusion of soul and hip hop guaranteed to get your juices loose and your pumps jumping. Lead vocalist Sonia Kreitzer croons with a prowess akin to Gladys Knight while the band (featuring co-rapper Max Burgundy) generates enough funk and swing to keep everyone’s hips gyrating feverishly. They’re definitely a party group; with live raps, infectious rhythms, and brash attitude they pay tribute to the blossoming expanse of hipsterdom in which they’ve taken root. They’re a tongue-in-cheek makeout session completely cognizant of the irony spraying all over their wet T-shirt contest. Whether you’re a weekend warrior or a seasoned veteran of the week-long bar crawl, Sonia’s Party is a shindig you simply must attend. – BrokeMC

NYC Artists on the rise: Minerva Lions

Posted on:

Minerva Lions is an emerging Brooklyn band playing rather chilled alt-folk alternitevly reminiscent of Beck from the "Sea Change" period and early Gomez, although – now that I think about it – Ascension Day ( the song that made me think of Gomez) is more like a reinterpretation of Pink Folyd’s "Money". The band is getting a good amount of attention lately. They just released a 3 song EP you can stream here, and will be performing at a private last.fm party in Williamsburg on May 13 – you are NOT invited.

The 7” was mixed and recorded by Al Ashraf, and was produced by Slipshod Mucus Kiss Recordings. Life Dreams will be available on Friday, July 15, but until then you can sample their first offering below. Enjoy! – The Deli Staff

The Many Faces of Creepoid at KFN May 9

Posted on:

The many faces of Creepoid are coming to the cozy stage of Kung Fu Necktie tonight to cure you of the Monday blahs! Which version of Creepoid will show up this evening? Will it be the stripped-down, almost acoustic version with multi-instrumentalist Dave Saylor (Exploding World) that they recently unveiled in their Big Ugly Yellow Couch Session? The rockin’, grunge-y folk outfit that has the blogosphere buzzing? Or the punk-as-shit crew that may or may not finish their set before imploding on stage and destroying their instruments? Well, you’ll just have to show up to see for yourself. But I guarantee that it will definitely be entertaining. Kung Fu Necktie, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 8pm, $8, 21+ (Photo by David Turcotte) – Q.D. mp3 Premiere: Blackbird Blackbird & Pandit, “Lovesick”

Posted on:

The prolific Bay Area bred Mikey Maramag aka Blackbird Blackbird teamed with Texas’ Pandit for the marching-band-meets-chillwave track "Lovesick" available for free download here. Tough to resist
a download tagged with “weird" and "california," aptly described by Blackbird Blackbird label UFOLK RECORDS. Just as he did on recent solo albums “Halo” and “Summer Heart,” Blackbird Blackbird paired the single with cool, original cover art.

Don’t miss Blackbird Blackbird with Ghostland Observatory at The Regency Ballroom on May 10, Rickshaw Stop on May 25 or 105 Pioneer St. in Santa Cruz on May 28.
