This was a bummer when we heard about it, and we were hoping that it was a joke, but guitarist, singer and sometimes keyboardist Andy Molholt confirmed that it was true. Genial psych-pop outfit The Armchairs are breaking up citing “differing goals, differing musical and creative directions, increasing interpersonal tension, the law of increasing atrophy (the 2nd law of thermodynamics)”. You can read the rest of the message that they posted HERE. They’ll still be performing at Pilam’s Human BBQ this Saturday, and their final show will be May 13 at Johnny Brenda’s with pals Orbit to Leslie, Circadian Rhythms, and Dinosaur Feathers. Hopefully you can make it out and wish them your best. We are sure that we’ll find them involved in the local music community one way or another. Much love to The Armchairs! – The Deli Staff
Weekly Feature: Xray Eyeballs – live at Shea Stadium on April 14 with Zulus
Apart from the creeptastic image they’ve come to adopt, the Xray Eyeballs are actually a relatively fun, garage rockin’ group.
While a lot of this Brooklyn band’s imagery consists of skulls, crystal meth and other touchy subjects… deep down, the band’s songwriter O.J. San Felipe is a hopeless romantic, and it shows on catchy songs like "Escape From That Girl" and "Fake Wedding". Helping tug at the heartstrings are accompanying vocalists Carly Rabalais and Jay High, lending soulful ooh’s and aah’s that help round out Felipe’s strung out whine.
Like The Beets and Deerhunter, Xray Eyeballs revel in the lo-fi. If you’d never heard of this band before, you might be convinced they were a lost 7-inch-only garage band from your dad’s youth. While they do share much in common with Nuggets-style jangle and 4-track charm, they have a Misfits-style gore that leads to some spooky results in the video for the LP’s first single Crystal.

Bardo Pond Still Going Strong at DDG April 8
It’s reassuring to know that a band like Bardo Pond, a beautiful Philly success story who formed way back around ’91, is still going strong. If their latest self-titled release is any different than the way things sounded back in the day, it’s only that they sound more muscular and refined. Not dreamy enough to be shoegaze and slightly too lazy for grunge, their guitars revel in a kind of supreme stoner-rock overdrive. Some may try and relate their music to trippy experiences (not that I can blame them), but it’s hard to determine how much of their sound is drug-induced and how much of it is just the results of searching high and low for a particularly gnarly fuzz-tone. They’ll be complimented well by New Zealand’s blissed-out Surf City and Toronto crooners Snowblink. Weekly Feature: Atlantic/Pacific
Atlantic/Pacific began their career in a half hazard manner with a basic desire for the band, which then mainly consisted of Garret Klahn and John Herguth, to take a trip through Europe. The duo performed material that existed from their previous bands, Texas is the Reason, and House & Perish. After having success in Europe, “somewhere between Prague and Germany” said John “we decided to become a band”. – Read Michele McMannon’s feature on the band here.
Some Major Lazer Characters for Adult Swim Revealed!
Diplo tweeted a link yesterday for where you can find your first look of the characters for his new Major Lazer cartoon show coming to Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network. They were created by Ferry Gouw who also did the cover art for the Major Lazer album. You can see your “one-armed Jamaican ex-commando and nightclub owner who battles the forces of darkness while making reggae-tinged booty-shaking jams” above, and you can also view some of the other characters HERE. Enjoy! – The Deli Staff

Where Is My Mind?: Toy Soldiers
Toy Soldiers are back with a new EP Get Through the Time and the band’s lineup is a little more scaled down, but it all seems part of their plan to get back to their roots. Life is hectic sometimes when you are in a band while still in college, and it doesn’t get any easier once you have graduated and are faced with more obstacles from the “real world”. Well, for Ron Gallo and crew, it seems that the answer is to just keep on playing to “get through the time”. We had a chance to find out a little more about life for Toy Soldiers after leaving the ivory towers of higher education and the release of their latest effort Get Through the Time, which the band will be celebrating tonight at Johnny Brenda’s and making available tomorrow digitally. Check out what they had to say HERE!

Rubblebucket play Deli show at Les Poisson Rouge on April 20 with Com Truise
Coming from a very Vermont background of jam band music, the Rubblebucket crew has slowly morphed its sound into an extremely original avant-pop direction, reminiscent of a funkier and less contrived version of Dirty Projector, also armed with an unobtrusive but always fun horn section.
Recently relocated to Brooklyn, the band is about to release a new full length entitled "Omega La La", realized with producer/mixer Eric Broucek (LCD Soundsystem, Cut Copy, Hercules and Love Affair) – the track "Silly Fathers" is available for free listen and downnload at the end of this blog entry.
Rubblebucket is currently on an extensive US tour and will be back in NYC for a Deli sponsored show with Com Truise at Le Poisson Rouge on April 20. Fun is guaranteed so we hope to see you all there!
