Fledgling glossy, all-local, quarterly music mag Jump is having their launch party tonight at National Mechanics. Creeping Weeds will be on hand helping them celebrate the momentous occasion. Their long-awaited sophomore full-length See Through was released this past February, and did not disappoint for fans of the indie pop songsmiths. (You can read our review of their album HERE.) They will be joined this evening by experimental surf-punk trio Mercury Radio Theater and pop rockers Lamagier. DJs Honkytron (electronic rock-a-soul-billy) and Bropar (punk) will be spinning throughout the evening so you can come get crazy and toast with the staff and friends of Jump. We here at The Deli have a fondness for print so we wish them well. Cheers Jump! National Mechanics, 22 S. 3rd St., 8pm, Free, 21+ – H.M. Kauffman

EP Review: Melted Toys Washed and Dried
Melted Toys’ debut EP Washed & Dried presents itself as a double-edged sword. Every track on the album, without fail, delivers to it’s full potential of psychedelic hazy-bliss. By creating such a well-rounded debut that may give any listener the false notion that these guys have been around forever, Melted Toys sets the bar high for subsequent releases.
The young bay area trio delivers the ideal amount of laid-back yet catching guitar and bass lines coupled with synths and drum machines to create delicately crafted misty pop songs. Tracks like “Come on” and “Washed & Dried” are perfectly complemented by guitarist Steven Harkins quiet vocals, reminiscent of Anthony Gonzalez on M83’s Saturdays=Youth. But, what makes Melted Toys stand out from a slew of other young bands placed in similar genres, is that these guys possess the ability to create a sound and style that is entirely their own. Though this notion rings true in their EP, it can most easily be seen in their live shows.
Pacific Northwest music media project Into the Woods recently filmed the band performing “Portals” at their house in San Francisco. The fog machines and grey sky outside their window perfectly emulates the bands subtle yet haunting performance-one that would be hard to forget.

From The Deli’s Open Blog: Plates of Cake, in store show at Permanent Records on April First
On Friday April 1st, Brooklyn based Plates of Cake will be giving an in-store performance at Greenpoint’s Permanent Records. (181 Franklin Street, Greenpoint, Brooklyn 11222 Sharply at 7PM. FREE.) Praise for Plates of Cake’s Debut LP, out now on All Hands Electric: “This is rock ’n’ roll for latenight cab rides, rainy mid-day skies, blinking lights, almost-gone well drinks, cocktail napkins with phone numbers written in lipstick — this is The National if The National sounded like everyone says they do. . . Truly soiled music, dove-like in its beauty and full of gritty fire and sore guts.” -TinyMixTapes "With an impressive breadth of pop styles and tight execution, the band puts forth a surprisingly varied set for such a short record." – Popmatters "A top-shelf lead single [Private Yacht] that we can show off to our friends…" – My Old Kentucky Blog "A British Invasion sound straight out of Brooklyn." 2010 CMJ – Our Recommendations – AM New York – (as posted in The Deli’s Open Blog – post your band’s entries, videos, and Mp3s here. The NYC Open Blog is powered by The Music Building).
Small Chicago is Back with Suns
Small Chicago took some time off but they are back with a great performance form Suns. The band came by and played 3 tracks including "Little Horn" above from their 2010 ep Close Calls in The U.S. Space Program.
Suns is performing at Bottom Lounge on April 16th.
Upcoming in NYC: Baby Teardrops release debut CD at Pianos on April 4th.
Brooklyn based Baby Teardrops will be releasing their debut CD with a show at Pianos on April 04. The band revisits the sound of the 90s in a poppier, less abrasive and rather sophisticated way. If you miss those mood lifting "loud-quiet-loud" oh so ’90s moments, you’ll be able to find them again in these guys’ music, although a little more tamed compared to what the Pixies or Nirvana used to do. Here’s the video of the single "X is for Love", which was shot at The Local 269, the Lower East Side bar where drummer Gerry White works.
Boris Smile releases “The Battle of Miss Little” – Free Download!
What started out as a solo project by guitarist/pianist/vocalist A. Wesley Chung named after his Russian neighbor, Boris Smile has morphed into a full-fledged band, putting out two full length albums since their debut, Chapter 1, back in 2007. Their third studio album, My Love Powered by 1000 Practice Amps, will be released April 16th, but they are giving us a taste of the 23 track album early with the song “The Battle of Miss Little.”
The song, as uplifting as it is a war-cry for the desperate, is a quick one at under two minutes but it still packs a punch. ""The Battle of Miss Little" was a song I wrote for a friend of mine whom I met while in the UK. It is ironic that her last name happened to be "Little" because it helps make the song more of a universal anthem for anyone who feels small in a world of giants. It was meant to give people some hope and encouragement,” says Chung.
It shall be interesting to see how it fits in with the rest of the enormous track count when the album comes out in less than one month.

Francisco The Man EP
"With Friends Like You" was such a pretty, pleasant suprise. They’re called Francisco The Man, aptly taken from one of my favorite books, One Hundred Years of Solitude. They made mention of being friends with The Fling, another great local band, and I can hear a lot of similarities in their sound. You can grab their EP over at their bandcamp, and what’s even better news is that it was mixed and mastered by TW Walsh (ex Pedro the Lion). I was just listening to his gorgeous cover of "Cheslea Hotel No. 2" the other day. They play that feel good kind of rock ‘n’ roll. The surfer aesthetic paired with 60’s AM makes it somewhat of a perfect jam for back porch BBQs. It’s got a bit of a Tom Petty feel mixed with Neil Young. The track "Television Father" is brilliant, with swaying rhythm, lo-fi vocals, and the line, "It’s a good life, it’s a good good life".
