Quiet Lights have been gathering quite a lot of attention lately in the blogosphere with their ethereal and sometime dissonant dream pop. The Brooklyn band just release a this new video of the song Break Trouble Wait. The band will also play Rock Shop on march 1st.

Coach Potatoes/Living Room Songs
If you want an exclusive look into the living rooms of Chicago’s independent music scene than you should follow what the folks at Living Room Songs are doing. Their Coach Potato Series is producing a lot of great and intimate video of many talented local musicians. My favorite video of late is the one above with Henry Mosher.
Off of Sixth: SXSW @ Waterloo Records w/Black Joe Lewis, Trail of Dead, Sahara Smith
You wouldn’t want to skip the madness of 6th St. entirely during SXSW – packed with some of the best shows all within easy walking distance, and always full of good people-watching, it’s really SX Ground Zero. But it would also be a shame to spend your entire SXSW without escaping to some of the venues more scattered across town…we’ll be picking out some of our favorite off-Sixth happenings and giving you details.
First up is Waterloo Records, which is hosting a daily outdoor party in their parking lot at (West) 6th & Lamar – just a straight shot across town from party central. They’ll have acts out in the Austin sun from noon to 7PM every day, including Sahara Smith (noon, March 16th), Black Joe Lewis (above, 5pm, March 17th), …And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead (5pm, March 18th) and Hayes Carll (5pm, March 19th). Not to mention some not-too-shabby out-of-towners like Telekinesis, Wye Oak, Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and J Mascis.
NYC Artists on the rise: Railbird – CD release at Rockwood on 02.24
Railbird isn’t afraid of void nor silence. Split between the isolated wilderness of upstate NY (where they converged in March of 2009 in a friend’s A-frame cabin surrounded by snow) and the crowded lonesomeness of NYC, this band produces sparse music that speaks to the heart – and can be comforting to both the lonely and the stressed out. Sarah Pedinotti’s theatrical vocals tell stories about everyday life, while her backing band creates a beautifully balanced soundtrack that doesn’t shy away from being occasionally playful. We are impressed with these guys, we recommend you check them out at their CD release party at Rockwood Music Hall on 02.24.

Parts and Labor: CD release on 03.08 + tour with Pterodactyl + free song!
Featured on the cover of one of The Deli’s early issues, Parts and Labor have stuck around and evolved from their furious industrial-punk beginnings to the current sound reminiscent of Hüsker Dü‘s immarcescible noise-pop. On March 8, P&L will celebrate the release of the new album with a show at Monster Island Basement in their hometown of Brooklyn, NY (Check out the band’s video flyer HERE). From there they will be touring to this year’s South by Southwest Music Festival, with fellow Brooklynites and Deli favorites Pterodactyl. Pterodactyl’s guitarist Joe Kremer, will join Parts & Labor on all dates, and P&L’s Dan Friel will sit in on Pterodactyl’s sets playing electronics and keyboards.

Invictus Picks — Cooling Towers — “Bodies”
Have you heard Cooling Towers? No? Well, neither had I until recently, but hey thats what makes finding a cool band, cool. "Bodies" is a clever tune worth checking out.
Adam Bouchard, lead vocalist of Cooling Towers, says that the band’s influences are Ian Brown (former lead singer of the seminal English alt-rock band The Stone Roses), Gavin Friday (Virgin Prunes), Sultans of Ping, and Babybird. "Beauty Pill, too," says Bouchard. "I love the band Beauty Pill."
Cooling Towers next show is Saturday, February 26 at Union Station in Northampton.
