A BLACK TIE NITE OF NOIZZ & WORDS feat. Genre Is Death, Eugene Hütz, The Art Gray Noizz Quintet & much more–a strange and erotic happening at Madame X this Sunday night (May 18)

Words by Jason Lee; Images of G.I.D. by longtime Deli graphic designer/photographer Kaz Yabe

“The kids are alright” as a still highly regarded rock dinosaur once said (who?!?) and two of our undisputed faves are Ty & Tayler alright cuz not only do these kids (ok, young adults) have a sweet alliterative interplay between their two names like this generation’s Sonny & Cher minus some of the more unseemly/unsettling elements and the variety show yet they got the audacity to not even call themselves “Ty & Tayler” but instead Genre Is Death which granted is the perfect name for their boundary-challenging music as discussed in an official Deli interview with the two Atlantian transplants a few month back…

…and if you’ll indulge us a bit of free association “Ty” reminds us of Ty the multinational corporation famous for making Beanie Babies, one of greatest scams ever perpetuated upon the American public which is saying something (!) many of whom stood in line for hours to buy Happy Meals for the cheap little plush toys within convinced they’d appreciate in value whereas today you can buy ‘em for about two cents each on Ebay and then “Tayler” reminds us of Taylor Ham of course which even tho’ it’s not spelled exactly the same is easily our favorite salty, smokey processed breakfast meat to come out of New Jersey…

….which is fitting cuz this particular combo of elements effectively sums up the magic that is Taylor & Ty a.k.a. Genre is Death cuz on one hand from our experience these are two of the nicest, kindest, sweetest, coolest and outgoing kids (or young adults) yr likely too meet in this modern day and age and we’re not the only ones to say so like two plushie toys you’d be inclined to carry everywhere as Emotional Support Animals (ESA’s) if you could without people looking at you weird with the knock-on effect of making them the perfect curators for an event featuring an eclectic array of musicians and other artistic types who they’ve befriended…

…but on the other hand G.I.D.’s music is more than a little EVOL sounding, gritty and gristly as sliced mystery meat piled atop a hard kaiser roll of drum machine beats alongside a couple fried eggs and slices of cheese product (signifyin’ their vocal interplay) with a stage presence as hardcore as a Tayler Ham sandwich that despite its yummyness could very well lead to your imminent death and likewise if ya didn’t already know how “alright” these kids are it’d be easy to see ’em pillaging the entire audience like Mongol warlords with heads on stakes and everything but you’ll stuff your gullet full of their music all the same seeing as its salty/smokey goodness is tough to resist…

…which brings us to the reason we’re writing this at you right now and that’s to inform you about a cool event these kids have planned this Sunday evening starting at 8pm (that’s May 18th for those too stoned to figure out what day sunday is) that looks to be similarly sweet and sour, bestowed w/the equally elegant and gnarly name of A BLACK TIE NITE OF NOIZZ & WORDS and this ain’t gonna be yr standard issue run-of-the-mill “concert” mind you but rather a multi-tiered, mixed-media, extra-sensory, turn-your-mind-inside-out vernacular spectacular–not a just a show that’s happening but a happening ya dig…

…featuring a veritable cornucopia of “better left unsaid” but said out loud nonetheless spoken word performances by Eugene Hütz (Gogol Bordello, Casa Gogol Records), Katheryn McGaffigan, Mark C. (Live Skull), and Grace Bergere; with imagery on display by the likes of Nico Malvaldi & Nik Bauman showcasing their underground rock ‘n’ roll photography; and finally, the strange and erotic sounds of The Art Gray Noizz Quintet (feat. members of Lubricated Goat, The Beasts of Bourbon, Woman, Crunt & Live Skull), Joseph Keckler, Genre is Death, and Avishag Cohen Rodgriues from Cumgirl8 and heck even a curated, secret drink menu, and it’s all going down at the perfect spot for such a gnarly yet refined artsy/sleazy/highbrow/lowbrow evening and that’s Madame X located in the heart of New York City’s Greenwich Village…

…which its multiple floors of elegant/decadent furnishings ‘n’ plush carpetings all dark wood-hued and deep, deep, deep red not to mention all the weird little cubby holes and antechambers all over the place at Madame X where one can but imagine the demented and delightful perversions which’ve been explored within over the years–the type of locale you can easily imagine the Velvet Underground playing back in the day alongside the mind-expanding immersive environment of Andy Warhol’s Exploding Plastic Inevitable which this Sunday night feels like it’s gonna be a direct descendent of…

…and ok we’ll let Ty & Tay take it from here cuz they were kind enuf to send us a more thorough description of the event which isn’t to say there won’t be “surprises” no doubt but you’ll just have to show up to find out what those are gonna be exactly and hope you live to tell the tale so with no further ado here’s the what/where/who/why/when straight from Genre Is Death themselves…
